About

Michelle Macwhirter is an author and playwright based on the Gold Coast, writing across contemporary drama, comedy and YA fiction.

She wrote Two Lines Between Us with indelarts, which underwent a creative development culminating in a playreading at the Judith Wright Arts Centre in 2026.

Her comedy Divorce Party enjoyed a near sold-out season at Gold Coast Little Theatre in 2025, following a developmental reading at HOTA.

She completed Playlab's Incubator program, writing Clan and presenting it at HOTA's 2017 Playwright Season, and is a Write Sparks alumna (JUTE Theatre Co, 2024). Her short plays have been performed at Short+Sweet Festivals in Sydney, Auckland and the Gold Coast, including For Our Kind, which placed second in its Sydney heat, and The Wrong Floor, presented at Javeenbah Theatre Company in 2021.

She is published by Walker Books Australia, and her YA manuscripts have won first and third place in the Children and Young Adults Writers and Illustrators Conference Competition (2024 and 2022).
